Daryn Smith
Daryn Smith, born October 31, 1972, at Fort Riley, Kansas, was not quite 36 years old when he died on Saturday, September 13, 2008, of a heart attack. It was quite unexpected, since, to quote the attending emergency room cardiologist at St. Mark's Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he had lived for a number of years, "He was in top physical condition."
Daryn attended school in The Dalles, Oregon, graduating from The Dalles High School in 1990. He worked various places and jobs during his lifetime; among them was photographing and developing pictures for The Dalles Chronicle as a teenager, at a 'tea & crumpet shop' in the Seattle area, as a Wildfire Fighter in CA, an employee at a ski resort in Utah, at Black Diamond Equipment Company, for Wasatch Electric, and finally for ATC Towers as a tower technician.
His love of rock-climbing and particularly ice-climbing became a passion that developed many friendships in the rock-climbing and ice-climbing community, where he was known online as "Stymingersfink".
He married Erin Cunningham on November 9, 1997. They had no children when they eventually divorced a few years ago.
He is survived by his parents, Daryl & Edie Smith, of The Dalles, Oregon; older sister Roni (& Kevin) Blegen of Lewiston, ID, younger sister Bobbi Smith of Portland, OR, younger brother Derek Smith (& Cheryl Gordaoff/Johnson) of Anchorage, AK, grandmothers Ethel Langevin of Vancouver, WA, and Florence Smith of Kent, WA, his Uncle Al Smith of the Seattle-Tacoma area, Aunt Norma (& Ted) Lindsey of Kent, WA, Uncle Joe (& Marylin) Langevin of Colorado Springs, CO, Uncle Jerry (& Treasa) Langevin of Socorro, NM, Aunt Carol (& Pat) Coffey of Vancouver, WA, Uncle Ralph (& Janet) Langevin of Vancouver, WA, Aunt Helen (& Ron) James of Reserve, NM, Uncle George (& Linda) Langevin of the Vancouver area, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members, including "Grandpa & Grandma" Bob & Martha Chambers of Vancouver, WA, and his ex-wife, Erin, of Atascadero, CA.
